Hummingbird Update
Its time to get your hummingbird feeders out! We've had our first "confirmed" local sightings and some "hummingbird tracker" websites already show them as far north as Northern VA. Remember, its entirely normal that hummingbird numbers seem light early in the season. Get your feeder(s) out, keep your nectar "fresh" and stick with it!

"Why feed Early & Consistently?"
By feeding early and consistently you give a "boost" not only to local nesting hummingbirds, but others who continue to migrate northwards (as far as Canada!). Spring and Summer is when they "replenish" their numbers. By helping them out early and consistently, their numbers will grow which all builds up to "the big show" at the end of Summer!
You will have far more visitation if you put out the "welcome mat" with a feeder (or two or three) and continue to maintain them with fresh nectar. Think of it as "building your following." Each female Hummer can raise and fledge as many as 6 young a season (in 2-3 broods). In other words, drawing and supporting 3-5 females to your yard can turn into 18-30 hummers by the end of the Summer. Fun Fact- While female Ruby Throats are "Super Moms," and tend to be highly successful at raising and fledging their young, the males are not likely to win "Father of the Year" awards in the birding world. They are mostly good only at fighting, drinking (nectar) and "looking handsome." They don't help raise the young.

Hummingbird Nectar "On Easy Street"
Maintaining your hummingbird feeder becomes MUCH EASIER if you use "nectar defender" products which keep your nectar fresh for 2 weeks at a time! Its far less work if you only have to change the nectar twice a month as opposed to every 3 days with regular "sugar water" nectar.
Please AVOID any mix with red dyes added. There is no good reason for it and unnatural dyes can be harmful to birds.

Hummingbird Feeders
Our specially designed feeders have built-in ant moats to keep bugs out and feeding ports that prevent rain water from diluting the nectar solution. The flat design means no more sticky leaks, plus they're easy to hang or pole-mount and a snap to clean (top shelf dishwasher safe). They’re also backed with a lifetime guarantee! What's not to love?

Want to make your own nectar? Just mix 1 part white sugar and four parts water! No red food coloring needed.
